This card will not work with any mac os before 10.8.3 so i had to kiss my snow leopard boot drive goodbye. there is of course no EFI boot mode, but otherwise it works exquisitely with lion 10.8.3 and above, with full acceleration in motion 5 (it renders 6x faster than my old 5890) which presumably would translate over to FCX as well (though i don't use that asa much). This is probably too little too late, but FYI i'm using the XFX 7970 black edition in my mac 2008 mac pro. Here is the 7950 article for reference: Please Log in to join the conversation. Thank you in advance for any assistance you may provide!!! I can't wait to see greater performance in FCPX with a new graphics card. Now, with the introduction of this new player to the potential roster, I'm a tad confused.Ĭan anyone please explain to me why I would use a slower card because it is a "Mac Edition", over the faster 7970 when both of them need 10.8.3 to operate? I've read that there is a special Mac BIOS included with this card, but will that give it greater functionality or compatibility with OSX / FCPX? Doesn't 10.8.3 address any compatibility issues with it's inclusion of radeon 7XXX drivers? I've been waiting for 10.8.3 (or the rumored 10.9) so I can upgrade my existing 5870 to the Radeon 7970. Recently at Cebit, Sapphire previewed their Radeon 7950 Mac Edition graphics card. I need a new graphics card for use SPECIFICALLY with FCPX.
